Sandra Takes the Stage with Randi Mahomes in Miami Beach

On October 24, Sandra was invited to join the Ultimate Sports Parent Experience: Miami Edition at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach — an afternoon created and hosted by Randi Mahomes, built from her own experience raising young athletes.

Created by Randi Mahomes, the Ultimate Sports Parent Experience brings athletes, coaches and families together to talk openly about raising young athletes — the wins, the setbacks, and everything in between. The room was full of parents and young athletes from across South Florida, there to hear from people who have lived the pressure, the sacrifice, and the joy of competing at a high level — and from the families who support them along the way.

On the Court Alone

Sandra spoke about what makes tennis different from almost every other sport: you’re on the court alone. There’s no teammate to lean on and no coach on the sideline mid-point. For a young player, learning to work through that by yourself is one of the hardest things the game asks of you — and one of the ways it shapes who you become.

She talked about going straight from high school to the pro tour, about coaching today and training everyone from kids to adults, and shared specific advice for parents who train alongside their own kids.

It’s a lesson Mission50 will test like nothing else. Fifty consecutive matches, roughly 53 hours, through the night and into day two — and every one of them played the same way every tennis match is: alone, one point at a time.

The Ultimate Sports Parent Experience Panel

Sandra also joined a panel conversation moderated by Tyler Carmona, alongside three people doing remarkable things in their own arenas:

  • Eloy Room — Guinness World Record holder and goalkeeper for Miami FC
  • Colin Campbell — Varsity boys baseball coach
  • Christine Handy — Speaker, author, philanthropist and advocate

One exchange stood out. Sandra had described being alone on the court as the defining challenge of tennis — and Eloy Room, a goalkeeper, knows a version of it better than almost anyone on a soccer field. A keeper has teammates in front of him, but in the moments that decide a match, he stands alone in goal. Eloy talked about facing that same challenge on the field, and about what it took to overcome it. Two sports, two very different arenas, and the same lesson: learning to back yourself when nobody else can step in for you.

Different sports, different paths — but the same conversation kept coming back around: how young athletes learn to handle pressure, and how the people around them can help without getting in the way.

Why It Matters to Mission50

Mission50 has always been about more than a record. It’s about showing the next generation what’s possible when you commit to something hard and see it through.

Sandra’s own path wasn’t a straight line. She didn’t get real training until she was sixteen, struggled for years on the way to the pro tour, and found her love for the game along the way. Sharing that story with a room full of young athletes and their parents is exactly the kind of moment this mission exists for. Read Sandra’s story →

Thank You

To Randi Mahomes, the Sports Parent Academy team, and every family who came up to talk with Sandra afterward: thank you. The invitation meant a lot, and the support meant even more.

A special shout-out to the Miami Athletic Association for making the introduction that started it all.
